Palliative Care

Palliative Care

A compassionate and sensitive approach to end-of-life care that balances physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

Balancing Practicalities with Emotional Support

Coming to terms with a life-limiting illness is one of the most challenging experiences a person and their family can face. During this time, you need a care team that truly understands your needs, one that can offer not only skilled clinical support but also genuine empathy, emotional reassurance, and respect for your personal values and wishes.

At Comficare, we understand that palliative care is about much more than managing physical symptoms. It is about meeting each person on a human level, listening carefully, and responding with kindness and compassion throughout every stage of their journey.

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care is person-centred and family-inclusive care provided for individuals living with an active, progressive, advanced illness for which there is little or no prospect of cure. The primary goal of palliative care is to optimise quality of life, reduce distress, and support the physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cultural needs of the individual and those closest to them.

Palliative care may include:

  • Pain relief and symptom management
  • Access to specialist equipment and clinical support
  • Advanced care planning and future medical discussions
  • Emotional, social, and spiritual counselling
  • Grief and bereavement support for family and friends

The Palliative Approach at Comficare

Comficare’s clinical team is trained and experienced in providing 24-hour palliative care. Our approach acknowledges the natural end of life and focuses on quality living rather than medical intervention alone. We are committed to keeping you and your family fully informed, respecting your decisions and preferences, and anticipating your needs with sensitivity and care.

Our palliative care is underpinned by our person-centred philosophy. We strive to meet the physical, spiritual, social, psychological, and cultural needs of each individual and the people who love them.

FAQs

Related to Palliative Care

Your general practitioner or a treating healthcare professional will typically initiate a referral for palliative care. We recommend meeting with our clinical team early to share your preferences and begin discussing your options. Our team will always communicate openly and honestly to help you make informed decisions, and we will follow your lead throughout the process.

End-of-life care is the specialised support provided during the final weeks of a person’s life. It may include pain and symptom relief, emotional and spiritual support, assistance with practical matters such as advance care planning and personal wishes, and grief support for family and friends. At Comficare, we are committed to ensuring this time is marked by dignity, privacy, and compassionate presence.

Comficare is the home of our residents, and we believe strongly in the comfort that comes from being surrounded by loved ones. We do not impose formal visiting hours and encourage family and friends to be present as often as they wish. In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, visiting arrangements may be temporarily modified. We will always communicate these changes with families as promptly as possible.
